Re: Winchester personal defense shotshells
I can't imagine this high priced gimmick load being any more effective than el cheapo buckshot or slugs.

Re: Winchester personal defense shotshells
No offense but they look like a really expensive gimmick.

Re: Winchester personal defense shotshells
Only 4 projectiles out of a 12 Ga for close quarters? - No thanks. I'll stick to 9 pellet 00 buck at a minimum.

Another member recommended them months ago. NICE STUFF, and reasonable. EDIT - I don't own any firearms, so would not know anything about them, other than what I've read over the internet. |

You used to be able to get some really wild shotshells back in the 80's. Bolo's, nail darts, lead beanbags, a flamethrower called dragons breath, etc. |

I like this one. All the space around the normal 00 filled with smaller gauge. No wasted space ... and I even like the name of it. |

Re: Winchester personal defense shotshells
Back in the 50's and 60's before plastic hulls pushed out paper, we used to "ring" paper shells and keep a few of them around the house for defensive purposes. If you did it right, the bb's would keep a group almost as tight as a slug if you were in close quarters. If you didn't do it right, the shell was ruined by either powder leaking out or the shell coming apart where you cut it. It did save buying slugs for home defense.

Re: Winchester personal defense shotshells
Ammunition companies are smart in that they provide what the market demands. There has been a huge surge in gun ownership for personal defense and the like. Why not give people what they want, especially when they are already used to paying huge premiums for JHP?
An FBI study was done that concluded the 80% of shots fired by LEOs miss their intended target. Most defense ammunition sells on the "over penetration" idea. This idea basically says you don't want to damage people or thing on the other side of the target..... Totally unneeded. LEOs use certain types of ammo based on it's statistical ability to stop a living target. Not on some fear of killing a child in the background. What kind of well trained individual would shoot at something knowing they may kill innocent people? That being said... when it comes to shotguns, especially 12ga buckshot, stopping power is not in question for the most well known types/ brands of factory ammunition. Save your money..... Buckshot is devastating, and at self defense ranges I'm not sure I even begin to understand how devastating it would be. Deer at 20-40 yards drop quickly with a well placed shot. I'm sure the bad guy down the hall would be in serious trouble. |

Re: Winchester personal defense shotshells
Been loading upi on the 00 Buck lately. But if a guy is looking for a devestating "shot" shell, get you some 3" turkey loads in the heavier the lead styles. With a turkey choke these shots will throw a 100% pellet count pattern in about a 4" circle at 10 yards. I recommend shooting your turkeys before they get that close cuz these shells f'em up!!
